Man posed as illegal immigrant to avoid prison, police say

The Salt Lake City man was facing cocaine and heroin possession charges last year that could have sent him to prison for up to 15 years, the Associated Press reported. So Alvarado, 27, came up with a novel solution.

He got deported.

Alvarado told law enforcement and immigration officials that his name was Saul Quiroz and that he’d sneaked across the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, the AP said. Authorities shipped him back to what they believed was his country of origin.
